‘willie week’ series, part 5: a concertina lesson

Ever wonder what that small, octagonal, accordion-like instrument is that Irish musicians play balanced on one knee? It’s a concertina!

In today’s audio excerpt from the “Miltown Malbay” stop in our new hands-free app for motorists, Clare musician and composer Jack Talty introduces the concertina, the instrument he teaches at the Willie Clancy Summer School, happening this week in County Clare. Talty’s concertina is a Wheatstone, a 30-key instrument—like a vintage car, as he describes it.

The app is narrated by award-winning actor Iarlaith O’Conaire and actress Geraldine Hughes, with audio production by Audissey Media.

Enjoy!
